We will not support any features to make librespot compatible with free accounts, such as limited skips and adverts. Note: librespot only works with Spotify Premium. Additionally, it will provide extra features which are not available in the official library. It is an alternative to the official and now deprecated closed-source libspotify. It enables applications to use Spotify's service to control and play music via various backends, and to act as a Spotify Connect receiver. Librespot is an open source client library for Spotify. This policy is plain wrong and unfair.Current maintainers are listed on GitHub. Many small artists do gladly and needily receive their small royalty payments, and being as Spotify state that they do not know how much money artists actually earn after distributor costs etc, it is complete BS! I would encourage Big and Small artists to make their objections known to Spotify and to instruct their distributors to remove all their songs, tracks etc from Spotify if they implement this change and I would also encourage end users to close their Spotify accounts and not use the service and switch to a different streaming platform who will pay every artist fairly. It's also none of Spotify's business to decide how artists control their end earnings. This is completely wrong and immoral and is a way of Spotify making themselves look good to bigger artists by paying them more at no expense to Spotify. Their excuse is that some royalties do not reach the artist due to distributor and bank charges. Spotify, in 2024, are going to stop paying low stream, under 1000 streams per year, per track, small, and upcoming artists of their stream earnings and are going to give that money, which Spotify estimate is billions of dollars, to richer artists who havent earned those streams. Spotify To Stop Paying Small and Upcoming Artists ![]() Well, I'd still be on Premium if I could have simply updated my DD date. ![]() At the gym I hopped on the treadmill and activated Spotify and during 20 mins of treadmill I only listened to 3 songs! It feels like nothing other than trying to strong arm you into taking out Premium. You'll usually get an ad right as soon as you start playing or immediately after your first track too. What a nightmare!! It's supposed to be "at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted music" with ads. But we do it and we switch to Free for basically 3 weeks. So I'm already pretty frustrated at having to do this. My only option was to cancel Premium and switch to Free until the end of the month then re-subscribe. My initial attempts to amend my DD were hopeless - Spotify has no way to let you amend the DD date. My Spotify, annoyingly, was coming out on the 9th. So I recently decided I wanted to move all my direct debits to my payday at the end of the month.
